Some of these photographs are displayed here for their historical interest to enthusiasts rather than as examples of photographic excellence. They were taken many years ago using a film camera, mostly using High Speed Ektachrome which can show some grain. The original transparencies have been re-photographed using a high quality macro lens, but are still softer than if they had been taken with a modern digital camera: some were not prefectly sharp anyway. Please bear this in mind if you are contemplating a purchase. If required I can send a sectional enlargement at the same ppi as the final print, to give an idea of the quality.
After your order and payment confirmation have been received, your print will be made and shipped direct to you. In most cases this takes less than 10 days.
Prints on Ilfochrome may also be available in the following sizes: please email me with your requirements.

My panoramic photographs are different to most others for two reasons. Firstly, I use digital cameras which, unlike film cameras, produce extremely smooth, grain-free images. Secondly, most of my panoramas are made by stitching several images together to produce very detailed, high resolution panoramas. The combined effect is that my panoramas can be printed at large sizes and still appear sharp and smooth.
For most of my panoramas, several photographs are stitched together to produce high resolution images: a few, cropped from single photographs, are included because they are of exceptional quality. For most panoramas, the ppi (pixels per inch) dimensions are given: for the size you want, you can calculate the ppi by dividing the pixel width by the width of your print in inches. This is a good way to determine how sharp your print will be: a print resolution of 300ppi is extremely high and appears very sharp even on very close inspection. Printing at more than 300ppi would not produce prints that appear any more detailed.
Even at close distances, the detail in a 240ppi print is very similar indeed to that in a 300ppi print.
Values of less than 200ppi can still appear sharp at normal viewing distances, but may look softer when viewed very closely. If it is important to you that your print doesn't look at all soft from six inches away, you should choose a print size (using the menu on the checkout page) that gives at least 240ppi. The ppi figure is displayed next to the Print Size menu, and changes when you change the selection in the Print Width menu.
Note: "ppi" is not the same as the "dpi" figure used to describe inkjet printers: these need to blend many dots of ink to produce the color of just one pixel.
All of the images in the Galleries are compressed to make the file sizes small enough to download, and for your browser to display, at a reasonable speed. This may produce artefacts which will not be present in the final print. The Gallery pictures are also reduced in resolution for the same reason. Your final print will show much more detail, and for high-resolution panoramas very much more.
Some of the images (but none of the panoramas) may need to be cropped slightly to print at a "standard" size, because images displayed in my Galleries have proportions that may differ from "standard" photo sizes such as 8x10 inches, 11x14 inches, etc. Most of the images in the Galleries are already cropped to have the same proportions as A4 paper.
Cropping is standard practice for all photographic images. It is impossible to print an image from any 35mm camera (which has a width 1.5 times as long as its height) at "standard" sizes of 8x10 inches or 11x14 inches without cropping the edges or leaving some white space along the longer sides.
I use a Canon inkjet printer and genuine Canon ChromaLife100+ inks. An A4 printer limits to 210mm (the width of a sheet of A4 paper) the height of horizontal panoramas that I can print myself. Panoramic prints can be any width, but for panoramas higher than 210mm such as 12x36 inches, I use professional printers. Their machines use lasers to expose conventional photographic paper producing smooth, continuous tone images as long-lasting as traditional prints made from film negatives. Ilfochrome (Cibachrome) prints are also made professionally for me.
Always be kind to your prints, and they will reward you for many years. If you leave them in direct sunlight, unprotected by glass, in a polluted environment, they will fade in the end, with the exception of Ilfochrome prints, which last a very long time.
